– what is the problem you are trying to solve.

– why are you trying to solve that.

– what are the approaches that you have already tried and they failed.

– what are the new approaches that might work.

– And then ask for advice.

Most of the times, this would help you arrive at the answer yourself. But don’t wait too long, if its really important to get the task done quick, just send the email.
